Protein Energy Balls

These energy balls are the perfect snack to meet your protein goals, without the need for refined sugars or artificial sweeteners.

They're great for additions to breakfast, lunch and dinner, and use ingredients which you would already have in your cupboards or easily find in your local supermarket. Again, they are no bake and refined sugar free. I use whey protein from MyProtein , which means they aren't gluten free or vegan, but it would be really easy to interchange the protein to suit your dietary requirements.

With regards to the protein, I used unflavoured protein with a dash of vanilla extract, but to change these treats up you could experiment with the protein flavourings. I will be posting some more energy ball combinations in the upcoming weeks.

Now - protein... As a vegetarian, I struggle to hit my personal protein goals on a daily basis. These help combat this as they include peanut butter, which although is full of healthy fats, it is also a good protein source. Obviously the addition of 2 scoops of protein powder also helps us to meet this goal. Oats are also higher in protein compared to other grains, and so after rolling into 22 servings, we end up with snacks with around 4g of protein totalling just under 90 calories (Based on the specific ingredients I used).

Feel free to adjust this recipe to fit your dietary requirements. If you aren't fussed on the protein powder aspect, substitute with blended oats to make an oat flour. If you want to roll into less servings and have a higher protein content per energy ball, or you want to add more/different protein, just have a play around with the water content to meet the desired consistency.

Recipe - Makes 22 (Optional)

Ingredients

  • 135g oats

  • 2 scoops protein powder (50 grams)

  • 85g honey/agave syrup

  • 120g nut butter (you want the runny, natural kind)

  • 45g chocolate chips

  • Few dashes of water to meet a cookie dough consistency

Method

  • Mix all ingredients together

  • If you need to add water, add it now

  • Roll into desired size

  • Place in fridge for 30 minutes

  • Keep in an airtight container in fridge (or freeze)

Enjoy!
